Ancient Lake Agassiz can be thanked for leaving behind sand deposits in Manitoba’s Spruce Woods Provincial Park. Only a few kilometers of open sand remain. The rest has been reclaimed by plants and wildlife. Some of the trails in the Spirit Sands section of the park lead to the eerie Devils Punch Bowl. This pool of blue-green water was created from collapsing hillsides caused by the erosion of underground streams.
